Live Better in France
France ranked second in European quality of life poll
The study, compiled by price comparison website USwitch.com assessed 19 factors affecting quality of life, ranging from income and working conditions to healthcare, education and cost of living.
Spain just pipped France to the top spot, despite having the lowest average income (around 16,800 euros), since low taxation and cheaper essential goods brought the cost of living down overall.
Britain and Ireland trailed at the bottom of the chart due to sky high prices for fuel, food and other essentials and the shortest holidays. They also had the highest retirement ages (64.1 years Ireland and 63.2 years in Britain).
France was found to have the longest holidays in Europe at 40 days, as well as the second lowest retirement age at 58.9 years, just later than the Polish, who retire at 58.4 years on average.
