Paris Gets First Youth Hostel
Cheap accommodation now available in the capital
Travelling to Paris on a shoestring budget? You can now cut your accommodation costs by staying in a brand new youth hostel, the city's first for more than 15 years.
Situated beside the Bassin de la Villette in the north east of the city, the hostel has 275 beds priced from 17 - 30 euros per person and is the latest in a series of planned projects to rejuvenate the area close to the Place de Stalingrad, which used to be a hotbed for crime but now houses several new restaurants, bars, cinemas and soon a new marina.
Mayor Bertrand Delanoe told journalists that despite the city's status as one of the leading tourist attractions in Europe: "it still needs to cater for young people travelling on a budget".
The new hostel hopes to attract other tourists and local residents with a number of public facilities including a restaurant, bar and internet cafe.
