According to research by Holidaylettings.co.uk, just 6% of pet owners have arranged for their pets to have EU pet passports, with the majority (58%) opting to leave their animals with friends or a house sitter instead.
Despite the fact that the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) enables owners of dogs, cats and ferrets to vaccinate and microchip their pets and travel with them to countries throughout the EU, 28% of owners still prefer to use to kennels or catteries when they head off abroad. While many hotels do not accept pets, renting a private property could be the answer for owners who want to take their animals with them on holiday.
Holiday Lettings advertises over 25,000 holiday homes around the world, and over 1,000 of its homes in France welcome guests with pets.
Ross Elder, Managing Director of Holidaylettings.co.uk comments: "it tends to be property owners who have or like pets that welcome them into their holiday home, but a simple set of rules for guests such as no pets in the bedrooms and pet food or treats only to be eaten in the kitchen or outside, will ensure that guests and their pets respect your property".
