Historically, France has taken a relaxed view of nude sunbathers - it is after all the country where screen siren and fashion icon Brigitte Bardot first championed the trend - but now it seems authorities are clamping down on people who do not follow the strict rules governing a certain nudist resort on the Mediterranean coast.
The Cap d'Agde is known as 'naked city', as it's widely considered the Mediterranean capital of nudity. You can dine, shop, drink and even swim on its three mile beach in your birthday suit, but there is growing concern in the local community about the increase in the number of sex shops and related nightclubs that have appeared in the area. Now the authorities have granted the resort permission to keep a blacklist of guests who they consider 'undesirable' for the resort to prevent any trouble in future.
The Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertès (CNIL) has permitted the resort to maintain the list provided they can demonstrate 'objective' reasons for excluding certain guests, such as outstanding debt, failure to adhere to hygiene rules or to respect fellow guests privacy, or refusal to adhere to the obligatory requirement to be naked (guests are only permitted to wear clothing during bad weather).
